Took a flow workshop from Kathryn Budig yesterday (pictured here). I highly recommend taking her class if you can (she’s in the L.A. area). We talked about what our “scary” poses are and why they are scary. We also focused on handstands and getting into handstands from poses like this. Its mostly CORE strength, versus arm strength, and balance. I learned some new stuff and definitely want to work on correctly getting into handstand or Pincha Mayurasana, instead of just blindly kicking/flailing my legs up in the air (or up against the wall) to get into the pose.
